
NLNG takes education very seriously and considers it a key development factor with unique potentials to stimulate development and growth. This has informed our long-standing commitment and contributions to education.
The company also administers a scholarship programme that covers post primary, undergraduate, overseas postgraduate and maritime studies. The post primary scholarship supports very high performing basic pupils in host communities to gain access to tip of the rage education in top rate secondary schools in Nigeria.
On the other hand, over N500 million has been spent on the Undergraduate Scholarship for Nigerian students in various universities. The value of the scholarship was recently reviewed from N100, 000 to N300, 000 per awardee for an academic year.
NLNG University Support Programme is one of the company’s interventions in the nation’s education sector. NLNG is spending N2 billion on six Nigerian universities to develop engineering education in the country.
Other contributions by NLNG include the establishment of Bonny Vocational Centre, an accredited London City & Guilds centre in Nigeria, which produces world class technicians to fill the skills gap in Nigeria; and in Rivers State, NLNG promotes a science quiz competition which provides educational materials as well as constructs classrooms in across its host communities.
The company, in partnership with The Nigerian Academy of Science and The Nigerian Academy of Letters, instituted The Nigeria Prize for Science and The Nigeria Prize for Literature to honour and encourage excellent innovators and writers. The prizes, the largest in Africa, each come with $100,000 prize money.
